Transforming an Office Space for Informa Markets
Icons of Denmark, in collaboration with furniture provider Hunters Contracts and architects Garret Design, undertook a project to design the new office space for client, Informa Markets – a leading player in events, intelligence, and scholarly research.
The primary focus of the project was to address Informa’s need for effective space division while ensuring collaboration, functionality, flexibility, and aesthetic appeal.
The project incorporated a variety of products from Icons of Denmark’s catalogue, such as Facit, Woodstock, Crossover, 4T, Nam Nam, Firkant, Spire, Smile Lounge, Sky, and Private. Each product was strategically utilised to meet specific functional and design requirements.
Reconfigurable and long-lasting for workplace generations
Initially, the client sought space division solutions using joinery. However, during a showroom visit, Icons of Denmark introduced the 4T System. The system’s reconfigurability, combined with a diverse range of components, highlighted the product’s potential to fulfil space divisions, whilst offering the desired aesthetic.
Through several design consultations, the configurations evolved to incorporate room division and creative workboards by using both frosted plexiglass and whiteboard panels.
The planting within the 4T System introduced biophilic design elements and provided partially open room division. It additionally created a natural focal point and a nod to the wooden slatted ceiling and bespoke joinery within with workspace areas.
Flexible, adaptable working desk solutions
A&D Consultant Hope Abeydeera from Icons of Denmark, collaborating closely with the designers, dealer partners, and AV experts, to develop bespoke solutions to accommodate individual monitor arms, power outlets, AV equipment and privacy screens. The team creatively adapted the Facit Unlimited Tables into several banks of desking that all included purposeful design elements.
“Working with Dom McMurray from Garret Design and David Goodman from Hunters Contracts, I facilitated bespoke and special solutions such as CNC cut-outs, tabletop splits and strategic leg placement to ensure that the tables facilitated both collaborative and individual work capabilities while optimising usable space per desk.
Informa needed their workspaces to be functional and aesthetically neat, which is often hard to achieve with multiple accessories on workstations. The team at Icons and I provided technical drawings of each workstation to ensure the collection of 28 unique tables were consistent in their design and aesthetic.” – Hope Abeydeera, A&D Consultant at Icons of Denmark
Besides the large collection of Facit Workstations, the Icons team also provided 27 made-to-order Woodstock tables for the various huddle and meeting areas.
13 fixed Woodstock meeting tables were multifunctional as desks while another 13 Woodstock tables with bespoke raised heights were equipped with castors for enhanced flexibility and adaptability of the space. This design allowed easy movement within rooms or nesting over fixed desks, expanding functional workspace when needed.
The project for Informa showcased Icons of Denmark’s innovative approach in adapting furniture systems and products to meet diverse client needs. By combining functional design with adaptability, the new office space achieved a harmonious blend of aesthetics, functionality, and flexibility, satisfying all the client’s requirements.
