Designed by Poul Volther in 1951, the J48 chair is characterised by its vertebrae style backrest, a form that Volther later mirrored in his design classic, the Corona chair. With its functional design and comfortable seat, the chair has become one of the most popular chairs in FDB’s unique furniture line.
FDB (est. 1896) are Denmark’s longstanding cooperative of home goods producers. Since the 1950s, they have been recognised, both in the design world and Danish households, for their creative furniture studio which housed a generation of iconic architects and furniture designers, such as Poul Volther, Børge Mogensen and Ejvind A. Johansson.
With a democratic approach to furniture; FDB embodied the idea of well-made, everyday furniture with the functional refinement which so encapsulates Danish Design. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the J series; a refined and simple collection that is not simply furniture, but part of Denmark’s rich cultural history.
